Garage doors do have a lifespan and sometimes they start to look a little worn. If your garage door isn’t that old but looking a bit tatty and worn-out, perhaps it’s time to bring them back to life. if your door material is wood there is a way to give them a new lease of life with a little tlc.
Start by considering the weather, as you will need to work outdoors you will want to start this project when the weather is dry and not too cold.
Step 1 – clean the door – use some water and soap and give the door a good scrub down. Once this is done give the door a spray down with your garden hose and leave to dry for at least 3 hours.
Step 2 – Sanding – protect the edges of the door with some masking tape and use medium-grain sandpaper.
Step 3 – staining – give the door a wipe down with a lint-free cloth and get to work applying a thin layer of stain. Do not use too much as this could leave drips. You shouldn’t need to apply more than one coat.
Step 4 – finish – leave the staining to get to work for around 30 minutes. Clean off any excess stain using a dry brush.
