Like with most things with moving parts, it is likely that at some point, you garage door will reach the end of its lifespan, and either need to be discarded, or have repairs done to it.
After you’ve had your door for a few years, you can expect to see some wear and tear around where the most amount of stress is generated, so within the hinges, and within the lifting mechanism. Sometimes these can be repaired cheaply by asking for some help from a professional, and other times you can just rig it up with some Heath Robinson style fix of your own invention (although you should probably go with the professional).
You can usually do some fixing with a garage door to help extend its lifespan, but there are plenty of things that you can do to reduce your risks in the first place. Oiling your hinges, and checking the waterproofing for your door, potentially reapplying a layer of it and some paint will help significantly.
